Our Love Story

I fell in love with my husband pretty easily. Whats not to love? Hes funny, kind, has a sweet heart, loves Jesus, makes me laugh daily, manly (I mean, he saves lives for a living), is a fabulous ginger, plays cards with me and sometimes he even wins, has a Disney obsession, and he is pretty good lookin' if I do say so myself.

We met at a Young Life camp in Central Oregon when I was a senior in high school and he was a sophomore in college. Scandalous- I know! We got to know each other that weekend and kept in touch throughout my freshman year at Seattle Pacific University but honestly had no feelings for each other, aside from being good friends. At the end of my freshman year he invited me to bring my YL girls from Seattle to Washington Family Ranch to help out at a family camp. For some reason when we saw each other that weekend, everything changed. Maybe we were just grown up a little bit or I was not the high schooler he met the year before- but regardless there was a change. After that weekend we talked every single day. He quickly became my best friend. That summer, 2006, I did Summer Staff at the same YL camp and he just so happened to be my intern, overseeing me and a few other friends as we ran the waterfront for the highschoolers. We kept our budding relationship incredibly mum, and the only other person who knew about us was my BFF, Olivia. What a gift that month was. We had daily devotionals with a group of 6 or so friends, got to serve side by side, and really get to know each other on a level we wouldn't have if we didn't share that month together. I believe it laid the foundation for our relationship. We didn't get to spend one on one time together (aside from a hug in the blob tower...Ok, that happened everyone!) and when we left no one knew we were even interested in one another. One rainy day in November, Paul came to visit me in Seattle (he was in school in Salem), and we decided to make this thing official. It was pretty amazing. But- about 6 or so months later we decided [...ok, Paul decided...] that things were moving a little too fast emotionally and we broke up. It was a pretty long year of talking only a few times and seeing each other only once of twice. Then, as fate would have it, Paul almost ripped his toe off in an unfortunate but painful Costco experience, and he was home for winter break at the same time I was. We ended up seeing each other a few times that break, but decide to continue not dating. Then, Hollywood intervened. One night we both unknowingly and unintentionally let movies decide our fate!

For him: Bill Murray's "Scrooged" during which he realized that life without me would have a meaningless future. I could have told him that! :)

For me: At a friend's bachelorette party, we drank champagne and watched "P.S. I love you." Bad choice. Soon I was texting Paul in a champagne buzz and crying with my girl friends.

About a week later, I was sitting in my Eugene apartment with my 3 best friends and Paul texted me asking if we could chat. A few days after that, he sat in my apartment and told me how he just had to have me back. Ok- it didn't really go that way- but it was something along those lines.... We decided to take things slow...and less than a month later he said I love you. A year later he asked me to marry him and 4 months after that- the wedding. The last 7 years of my life have involved this wonderful man and I feel blessed that I can look longingly into the future with him as well.
